
HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh sadly passed away at Windsor Castle three days ago. ‘Edinburgh’ as he was known in polo circles was the Founder and President of Guards Polo Club, England. He reached 5 goals and retired in 1971.
NZPA's Patron Tony Kay (who is based in Kihikihi and is currently 96 years old) played in opposing teams against HRH Prince Philip in the UK in 1956 in the first year of the British Open.
Prince Philip also umpired a game in Christchurch (an exhibition match played during the Commonwealth Games in 1974), at Ryan's Rd. Rest In Peace HRH.
