The New Zealand Polo team came from being down 4 goals in the last chukka of their International against the Argentine Coronel Suarez side to draw the first ever match the New Zealand Polo side has played in the South Island.
Both sides were mounted with ponies from the South Island players, these were divided up evenly.
At the end of the 3rd chukka Coronel Suarez led 10-6. The Kiwis started their fight back in the 4th chukka to close the gap and then in the final chukka scored 4 times the last just on the final bell to draw the match. The match was a 5-chukka match due to the pony power of the South Island. Both sides provided fast, entertaining polo for the large crowd that braved the fine but very windy day.
The second international is this Saturday at Kihikihi when John Paul Clarkin will join the NZ side and Gaston Llauhe will join the Coronel Suarez team.
