Pictures from the tournament Cambridge Polo held its annual Keyte Watson Cambridge Real Estate Finals on the weekend and some fast actioned polo as well as some fabulous weather contributed to a fantastic weekend for all involved. The support from both local businessess and the public through sponsorship and attendance was outstanding. Players travelled from as far as Gisborne to attend. The feature game of the weekend was the highly contested BNZ match which was held on Saturday. The Cambridge Homes New Zealand team of John Paul Clarkin, Simon Keyte, Thomas and Craig Wilson ran out the winners of the exciting game over the Cambridge Real Estate Northern Provinical team of Robert Watson, Allan Browne, Andrew Parrott and Sam Hopkinson. The NZ team now head to the International at the Nga Rakau grounds in KihiKihi where they will take on the English side next Saturday. On finals day on Sunday the winners of the three sections were sorted out again with great weather it was an exciting day with some very good polo being played. The low goal player of the tournament was Scott Jolly and Stephen Kay's pony Zoot took out the Champion Pony of that section. The Vosper Law Medium goal section was a tough competition as 12 teams played in this section and every one was very competittive. The Peter Glidden Honda team of Ross Ainsley, Paul Lyons, Archie Singh and Kell Ainsley ran out the winners over the Beatson Stables team of Felicity Hotston, Tony Smith, Gavin Reynolds and Gary Vickers. The Medium goal player of the section was Kell Ainsley and Ross Ainsley's pony Ashley took out the champion pony in that section. The Cambridge Real Estate High goal section was a great final to watch and ended the weekend with some very fast and exciting polo. The Waikato Ready Mix team of John Paul Clarkin, Nina Clarkin and Allan and Missy Browne were the eventual winners over the Mildon Builders team of Robert Watson, Hamish Ormond, Andrew Parrot and Barrat Watson. John Paul Clarkin won the player of the match and Nina's pony Vee took out the Champion pony. Donna Midgely was the champion groom of the tournament for looking after her horses so well and Lanto Sheridan took the prize for player of the tournament. There was also kids polo, where many young players showed what they could do and we will no doubt see some some of them in the finals of the adult section next year as there are some very talented junior polo players coming along. The barrel race was also hotly contested in both the junior and senior sections with some very fast rounds. The help of the club's sponsors was appreciated, and the club is now looking forward to the bigest tournament of the season, the Saville Cup. This will be held in the Rangitikei where Cambridge will send some representative teams to try and keep up the fantastic results it has been having all season.
