Following discussions with MAFNZ and relevant Australian authorities, New Zealand
Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR) has instructed that Riders or Stable Employers or Employees coming from Australia to ride or work in New Zealand will need to adhere to the following procedures.
- Any Rider or Stable Employer or Employee who has ridden or worked with a horse in
Australia, must notify the Stipendiary Stewards immediately if they intend to work with
a horse or ride trackwork or ride in a race or in a trial in New Zealand.
- Riders must present themselves to the Stipendiary Stewards or Racecourse
Inspectors to have all their riding gear inspected.
- The Stipendiary Stewards or Racecourse Inspectors must be satisfied upon
inspection of the Rider's riding gear that it has been thoroughly cleaned by washing
with soapy water or with standard detergents or a disinfectant.
- The rider will be permitted to ride only after he can assure the Stipendiary Stewards or
Racecourse Inspectors that appropriate biosecurity precautionary measures have
been undertaken.
The above procedures are subject to change, and NZTR will be continually monitoring the
situation in Australia.
Any person who has a query regarding any issue involving Equine Influenza please contact:
- Chief Stipendiary Steward, Cameron George 027 444 1855 or
- Chief Racecourse Inspector, John McKenzie 021 373373
NZTR welcomes Riders and Stable Employers and Employees coming from Australia, subject to full adherence to these conditions.
