NZ to take on Brazil in Kihikihi on Feb 10

14 January, 2007

This year's Morton Estate International Polo Test at Kihikihi will be an exciting one with a Brazilian team playing in New Zealand for the first time in many years.

"We have had a number of Brazilian players here but as a team, they will play a very different style to what we are used to in New Zealand" said NZ President, Paul Kay.

"Their team is still to be finalised as a number of their players are in Florida and other parts of the world during February so it is a case of them juggling their schedules at that busy time of year. Brazil is one of the top polo nations in the world along side Argentina and they play an exciting style of polo which is great to watch said Paul. The Bayley's New Zealand team will be finalised once we know the team handicap of the Brazilian team."

The NZ team will be missing one of New Zealand's longest serving test player with Cody Forsyth retiring from test polo last year. Cody's "big game experience" will be sorely missed but there are a number of the NZ FIB squad members pushing to fill the gap. The regional FIP Zone Finals will be played two weeks after the Morton Estate test which will give the NZ selectors another chance to evaluate their players if they use any in the Bayley's New Zealand team. No doubt the NZ team will feature a number of last year's players but just who is still to be decided.

The Morton Estate International Polo Test at Kihikihi has become a "must see" on the Waikato sporting calendar and this year will be no different. Paul Kay's Nga Rakau field is looking great and is the perfect settling for what will be a spectacle of polo.
