The Tommy Wilson-led Piquet Hill team defeated John Paul Clarkin's World First sponsored team 9-7 in the Bank of New Zealand 14 goal final at the Te Akau sports complex on Sunday.
The match was played in front of a large crowd of local and vocal supporters.
The victorious Piquet Hill team, winners of the BNZ 14 goal final against World First at the Waimai Polo Club on Sunday: (L-R) Mark MacCauley, Tommy Wilson, Craig Wilson, and Will Jackson.
Craig Wilson was the star player for Piquet Hill, and was later named Player of the Tournament. He also won the Champion Pony prize with his grey mare Skite. Youngster Will Hunt at 14 years played well for the World First team. This was Will's first 14 goal tournament.
In the low-goal final Bank of New Zealand Morningstar were too good for Waimai Elco Direct, beating them 7-5.
The New Zealand polo team to play against England at Kihikihi on Saturday February 11 was announced after the final by New Zealand Polo President Paul Kay. More information.
