Injury a blow to South Island team
A knee injury to Mark Harris will be a blow to the South Island polo team to take on an England selection in Christchurch on Sunday (January 15).
Harris, from Tuahiwi, has captained the team in a number of internationals over the years, but a training mishap has ruled him out of the biggest polo match on the calendar in the South Island this year.
"There's ligament damage," he says. "I'm resting it until the swelling subsides and then we'll decide on the best course to get it right."
The final team make-up will not be known until trials on January 13, after which the selectors Alan Calder and Roddy Wood will name the squad.
The England team will be captained by five-goal professional Dave Allen.
The clash, at the Polo Club Grounds behind at the Christchurch Showgrounds (entrance off Wigram Road) starts at 3pm, ending an afternoon of polo which begins at 12.30pm with Pony Club polo, followed by the Colts versus the Rusty Mallets at 1.30pm. Admission is free.
